IPL Match in Dharamsala Halted Due to Power Failure

The IPL 2025 encounter between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dharamsala was abruptly halted partway through owing to a “significant technical failure” at the ground, as stated by officials. The issue stemmed from a local power outage, leading to the malfunction of a light tower at the HPCA stadium.

Only 10.1 overs into the first innings had been completed, with PBKS off to a flying start. Openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh amassed a century partnership before Arya was caught out for 70 runs from just 34 balls, dismissed by T Natarajan. The game was stopped when three of the floodlight towers went dark at approximately 9.29 pm IST. Just 11 minutes later, organisers declared the match abandoned.

The match had already faced delays due to rain, which pushed back the toss to 8.15 pm IST from its original 7 pm schedule, although play managed to commence at 8.30 pm IST without any reduction in overs.

In light of the circumstances, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued an apology to those present at the venue for the disruption. Reflecting on the situation, a spokesperson for BCCI expressed, “Due to a power outage in the area, one of the light towers at the HPCA stadium malfunctioned. BCCI regrets the inconvenience caused to the in-stadium attendees.”

As a result, Punjab Kings’ upcoming fixture against Mumbai Indians (MI) will now be held in Ahmedabad instead of Dharamsala.
