Jason Sangha, a key player in South Australia’s recent Sheffield Shield victory, has secured a two-year contract with the Adelaide Strikers. This move sees him shifting fully into South Australian domestic cricket, following a successful stint with the Sydney Thunder.
Sangha began his cricketing journey with the Thunder as a 16-year-old novice. Last season, he showcased his skills by leading the scoreboard with 67 runs from 42 balls in the Big Bash League (BBL) final against Hobart Hurricanes. However, with his contract concluding, Sangha has opted to join the Strikers, spurred perhaps by his outstanding performance in the Sheffield Shield where he accumulated 704 runs at an impressive average of 78.22, sealing victory with an unbeaten 126 against Queensland.
Reflecting on his new chapter, Sangha shared, “The fans here have been incredibly welcoming, and I am eager to give my best on the field in the upcoming BBL season. My time with South Australian cricket has already been filled with some unforgettable moments, and I am excited to create many more while wearing blue.”
Throughout his tenure with Sydney Thunder, Sangha amassed 836 runs at 32.15, maintaining a strike rate of 121.15. His leadership was acknowledged when he was appointed captain for the 2022-23 season, albeit his campaign was cut short due to a fractured collarbone after just three games.
Strikers’ talent manager, Shaun Williams, remarked, “Jason’s talent and dedication on the field are well-known, and his impressive track record speaks volumes about his potential. Not only has he demonstrated remarkable skill, but his leadership qualities and work ethic are also exceptional.”
The Strikers, preparing for the forthcoming BBL season, have now secured ten players for the 2025-26 roster. Unlike most clubs, including Sydney Sixers, they have chosen not to pre-sign an overseas player, with the draft looming on 19th June.
Given Sangha’s recent form, there’s speculation about his selection for Australia A for their upcoming series against Sri Lanka and India during the winter months. His arrival at the Strikers is anticipated to bring renewed vigour to the squad, as he aims to leave a mark in South Australian cricket.
