South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is back in India, ready to rejoin his IPL team, the Gujarat Titans, for their upcoming match against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday. His return follows a one-month suspension due to testing positive for recreational drug use. Gujarat Titans’ Director of Cricket, Vikram Solanki, shared Rabada’s feelings and the team’s stance on the matter.
Addressing the press, Solanki noted, “Kagiso has expressed regret at an error in judgement. His statement speaks volumes about his character. He is eager to return to playing the game he loves and will certainly take his lessons from this episode.”
Solanki further clarified the procedural aspects, stating all protocols were diligently followed throughout the incident. “From Kagiso and his representative to others involved, everyone has adhered to the necessary requirements,” he emphasised. Solanki reiterated the importance of supporting Rabada: “We’re eager for him to rejoin our team and focus on his cricket.”
On the training ground, Rabada was active, practising with fellow bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna at the Wankhede Stadium. While there, he spent time in conversation with head coach Ashish Nehra, who offered some mentoring support. Rabada’s interactions extended to chats with team-mate Rashid Khan and later Akash Ambani of the Mumbai Indians franchise, suggesting some friendly cross-team camaraderie.
Solanki acknowledged the potential for off-field issues to affect a player, stating, “It’s easy to get distracted.” However, he was encouraged by Rabada’s determination not to let this incident overshadow his team’s focus or performance. “He’s dealt with it maturely,” Solanki said. “Our role is to stand by our players, whether in matters of form or personal issues like this.”
Rabada’s ability to bounce back is a testament to his resolve, and the support from the Gujarat Titans reflects a shared commitment to personal and professional growth. The cricketing world watches keenly as this chapter unfolds, hopeful that Rabada can resume doing what he does best.
