Kohli and Marsh Enter Top Five in Orange Cap Race

In an entertaining conclusion to the IPL 2025 league phase, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured a spot in Qualifier 1 by defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). As the dust settles, we’ve taken a closer look at the Orange and Purple Cap standings.

Virat Kohli of RCB and Mitchell Marsh from LSG have made their way back into the top five of the Orange Cap rankings after impressive performances. Marsh smashed a quick 67 off 37 balls during a crucial 152-run partnership with his captain, Rishabh Pant, helping LSG put up a total of 227 for 3. Despite their efforts, RCB chased down the target with eight balls to spare, thanks in part to Kohli’s pivotal 54 off 30 balls which set the stage for Jitesh Sharma’s explosive innings.

Marsh ends his season in fourth place with 627 runs, while Kohli, who continues into the playoffs, sits just behind him in fifth with 602 runs. The top of the table remains unchanged, with B Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans leading, closely followed by Shubman Gill and Mumbai Indians’ Suryakumar Yadav.

Turning to the Purple Cap race, there’s little movement with Josh Hazlewood yet to return to action post-injury. Chennai Super Kings’ Noor Ahmad remains the leader with 24 wickets. He is pursued by Gujarat Titans’ Prasidh Krishna with 23, and Mumbai Indians’ Trent Boult at third with 19. Hazlewood, currently in fourth place with 18 wickets, has the opportunity to climb when he returns for the playoffs.

This season has seen incredible performances across various areas of T20 cricket. Fans have been treated to thrilling batting strike rates, economical bowling, towering sixes, and standout bowling figures.

As the playoffs approach, cricket enthusiasts are keenly watching each game, eager to see who will emerge victorious. With the likes of Kohli still in the running, the excitement is far from over.
