Mandeep Singh moves on from Tripura as 2025-26 season nears

Batter Mandeep Singh has confirmed he will not represent Tripura in the forthcoming Indian domestic season, bringing a short, one-year stint in the North-East to an end.

“Thank you Tripura CA for giving me the opportunity to play last season, I enjoyed my time there,” he wrote on Instagram. “Made some wonderful memories on and off the field. Wishing the team success for the upcoming season. Looking forward to the next chapter.”

The 33-year-old had arrived from Punjab only last year, taking on the captaincy in all three major competitions. Tripura remained stuck in the group phase of the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, yet Mandeep’s own returns were solid.

Ranji numbers stand out: an unbeaten 124, five further half-centuries and at least fifty in each of his six matches. White-ball form held up too, with three fifties in the 50-over competition (best of 94 against Bengal) and two more in T20s.

A Punjab stalwart for 15 seasons, Mandeep had famously lifted the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with his home state in 2023-24, ending a 30-year wait. His surprise switch to Tripura was billed as a mentoring exercise for the younger squad; colleagues there speak of a “hands-on” leader who “never switched off”, though the results did not follow.

Where next? No association has announced his signing and, at this stage, the player is keeping his options open. One senior selector suggested a return to Punjab “cannot be ruled out”, but that remains speculation.

For now, Mandeep packs up after a productive, if brief, chapter and Indian cricket waits to see which dressing-room he joins next.
