Moores lined up for Trent Rockets head coach role, Voges in frame as assistant

Peter Moores is expected to step into the Trent Rockets men’s head-coach position for the 2026 Hundred season, with former Nottinghamshire overseas batter Adam Voges in talks to assist him. The move follows Andy Flower’s decision to join London Spirit.

Flower had overseen the Rockets since the competition’s launch and guided them to last season’s final. His departure created a vacancy that initially drew interest from Andrew Flintoff and Stephen Fleming, yet Moores now appears the front-runner. He is currently Nottinghamshire’s head coach and recently signed a three-year extension at Trent Bridge, so a Rockets appointment would dovetail with his county duties.

The franchise has changed shape off the field too. Private-equity firms Cain and Ares bought a 49% stake earlier this year, leaving Nottinghamshire as majority shareholders but bringing fresh capital and, by extension, fresh expectations. The new ownership team has already installed Chris Read as women’s head coach.

Moores, twice an England coach, adds a healthy résumé of short-form experience. He has worked in the Big Bash League with Melbourne Stars and in the Pakistan Super League with Karachi Kings, while also steering Nottinghamshire to last year’s County Championship title.
Voges, meanwhile, has become one of Australia’s most respected coaches after domestic doubles with Western Australia and Perth Scorchers. Although he has not previously worked in the Hundred, his five-year stint as a Nottinghamshire overseas player from 2008 to 2012, coupled with a recent assistant role at IPL side Lucknow Super Giants, makes him a logical fit.

Across the wider competition, several coaching posts have already been filled. Flower (Spirit), Mike Hussey (Welsh Fire) and Shane Bond (Birmingham Phoenix) are confirmed, and Daniel Vettori is set for the newly re-branded Sunrisers Leeds. Justin Langer has been linked with Manchester Originals—soon to adopt the Super Giants name—after leaving Spirit, where Tom Moody has moved upstairs as global director of cricket. Simon Katich has led the Originals since the Hundred began, but no decision has been announced on whether he stays.

Southern Brave must still replace Adi Birrell. Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani is thought to be on their shortlist, while reigning champions Oval Invincibles—soon to be MI London—are also looking for a new men’s coach after Moody’s exit.

Surrey’s agreement with Reliance Industries Limited, which would make the Indian conglomerate a co-owner of the Invincibles franchise, remains the final piece of paperwork in the competition’s privatisation process. Officials say confirmation is “imminent”, though the exact timetable is yet to be nailed down.

For the Rockets, the immediate priority is finalising Moores’ contract and, if talks progress smoothly, confirming Voges. Once those pieces fall into place, attention will turn to player retention ahead of a season that already feels noticeably different, even before a ball has been bowled.
