Multan Sultans are not pleased with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after their scheduled home game against Karachi Kings was relocated to Lahore. Set for 1 May, the match change, alongside a delay in their clash with Quetta Gladiators to 11 May, comes as part of the PCB’s logistical adjustments.
The PCB cited logistical convenience and recent heatwaves as reasons for this decision. Multan, among the hottest PSL venues, was slated to host the affected matches in the afternoon. Consequently, one match will now occur in Lahore, while the other shifts to an evening slot. Notably, Lahore itself remains almost equally sweltering, with marginally cooler temperatures than Multan.
The situation grew more complex following the departure of several Indian production crew members owing to diplomatic tensions, adding to the challenges.
Sources reveal Multan Sultans’ frustration with the rearrangement. In discussions, they recommended moving the Kings match to 6 May to retain a home advantage. However, Karachi Kings opposed, citing a compressed schedule that would demand playing three games at three locations in five days, leaving no days for rest.
Thus, the PCB chose to uphold the original date, leaving Sultans disappointed with what they describe as a “fait accompli” decision, allowing no room for further dialogue or negotiation. The PCB, while acknowledging the Sultans’ displeasure, argues that an alternative schedule could disrupt other teams’ fixtures.
Currently, Sultans find themselves at the foot of the PSL standings, with only one win from six encounters. Their path to the playoffs appears challenging, requiring victories in all remaining matches.
