Nahid Rana Withdraws from Bangladesh’s Pakistan Tour

Nahid Rana, along with two other staff members, has decided against joining Bangladesh’s upcoming tour of Pakistan. Fielding coach James Pamment and strength and conditioning coach Nathan Keily have also opted not to participate in the series.

According to Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) cricket operations, Rana’s decision might relate to a recent challenging experience. Earlier this month, the escalating tensions at the India-Pakistan border made it difficult for Rana to exit Pakistan. At the time, he was with the Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which led to the players being withdrawn. Despite sharing that experience, Rana’s squadmate Rishad Hossain has chosen to tour with the national side this time.

“A tough situation like what Nahid Rana and Rishad faced is understandably distressing,” Fahim explained. “Rana’s withdrawal might stem from that trauma. Meanwhile, our staff, including James [Pamment] and Nathan [Keily], have also chosen to stay back, although the remainder of the team is prepared for the tour.”

Fahim acknowledged that some Bangladeshi players initially hesitated about the tour, but they eventually came around when they realised most of their teammates were moving ahead with the plans.

Discussing safety in Pakistan, Fahim mentioned, “Pakistan ensures top-notch security during cricket tours. During the Champions Trophy, the level of security offered in Pakistan was the best I’ve seen. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has promised maximum security for our team.”

The tour has been shortened to a three-match T20I series instead of the original five matches. The fixtures will take place in Lahore on 28th, 30th, and 31st May.
