Riyan Parag won the toss in Hyderabad and, without much hesitation, chose to bowl first. The decision keeps Rajasthan Royals’ preference for chasing intact and, just as importantly, gives his unbeaten side a look at a brand-new surface before setting about a target.
“We’d like to have a look first. It feels like a good strip and we’ve chased well so far,” Parag said moments after calling correctly. Across from him, Sunrisers captain Ishan Kishan admitted form has been scratchy. “Results haven’t gone our way, but we’re sticking to our processes,” he offered, sounding upbeat despite a two-match slide.
Both camps made two changes apiece. Royals have rested Shimron Hetmyer, opening the door for South Africa’s Lhuan-dre Pretorius to make his first appearance of the season. Quick Brijesh Sharma also sits out, with Tushar Deshpande coming in for a like-for-like role.
Sunrisers handed debuts to two domestic quicks. Bihar’s Sakib Hussain and Vidarbha’s Praful Hinge replace the experienced pair of Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat. Hussain, incidentally, finds himself up against state-mate Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who remains on RR’s impact-sub list.

Under the impact-player rule—now in its second IPL season—any one of the named substitutes may replace a starting player at any stage, usually to bolster batting depth or add a fresh bowler.
With conditions warm and the square still carrying a hint of grass, the early overs should be lively. Royals’ new-ball pair of Archer and Burger will fancy their chances, but SRH’s Travis Head on a hard deck remains a genuine threat. As ever, the chase-first tactic only looks clever if the bowlers keep things tidy.
