In a recent development, the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) set for 11 May may be relocated from Dharamsala to Ahmedabad. This potential shift is a response to rising tensions along the India-Pakistan border.
The match against MI was to be PBKS’s final home fixture in Dharamsala, their secondary venue this season. Just last Sunday, PBKS enjoyed a comfortable victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their Dharamsala opener. This evening sees them face off against Delhi Capitals (DC) in another pivotal encounter there.
Originally, MI were set to travel to Dharamsala today, but these plans have been put on hold as discussions around the change in venue unfold. The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has acknowledged the IPL’s request to host the game at their grounds. GCA Secretary Anil Patel noted, “We’re just waiting for the final nod from the IPL, but we expect Mumbai Indians to arrive in Ahmedabad by Wednesday evening.”
Currently, PBKS occupy third place on the points table with 15 points from 11 games. MI trail closely behind, in fourth position, with 14 points from 12 matches.
For both teams, the coming fixtures are crucial as they jostle for playoff positioning, making the venue adjustment a notable, albeit brief, disruption in their campaign preparations.
