The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to postpone three domestic cricket tournaments due to ongoing security concerns in the country. The affected events include the President’s Trophy Grade II tournament, the Regional Intra-District Challenge Cup, and the Inter-District U19 One-Day tournament. In an announcement made on Saturday, the PCB confirmed that these tournaments would be paused immediately and would resume at the same point once security stabilises. The new schedule is yet to be determined and will be shared in due course.
This decision follows the indefinite postponement of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season—where eight games were remaining—citing a “worsening situation” at the India-Pakistan border. The PCB’s move came on the advice of Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif.
Initially, it was planned that the remaining PSL matches would be relocated to the UAE, but this was swiftly changed, and teams began dispersing, with international players returning home. Currently, there is no information on when the PSL will recommence.
Interestingly, the postponement occurred shortly after the IPL 2025 was also temporarily suspended. Reports from ESPNcricinfo reveal that after a ceasefire was initiated between India and Pakistan, efforts to resume the IPL began on Saturday evening. The ceasefire came into effect at 1130 GMT (1700 IST and 1630 PKT).
As for Bangladesh’s upcoming tour of Pakistan, its future remains uncertain. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has stated that it is in “active and ongoing discussions” with the PCB regarding the series, which involves five T20 Internationals. Bangladesh are due to arrive in Pakistan on 21 May to play matches in Lahore and Faisalabad, but the current political situation has cast doubts over the series.
The President’s Trophy Grade II, which commenced in mid-April, was expected to conclude by the fourth week of May, with a final on the 22nd. The remaining two tournaments had similar timelines.
