Shoulder trouble sidelines Joseph; Blades out with back stress fracture

West Indies will complete the one-day series in Bangladesh without Shamar Joseph after the fast bowler reported discomfort in his right shoulder. The 26-year-old, set for a first international outing since the Caribbean Premier League, was withdrawn in Dhaka on medical advice.

A brief Cricket West Indies statement confirmed, “he has been recommended for consultation with a specialist in England to start the rehabilitation process.” No recovery timetable was given, but the board expects greater clarity once those scans are reviewed.

Joseph’s absence extends a frustrating spell. He missed the recent Test tour of India with an undisclosed knock and, aside from five CPL appearances for Guyana Amazon Warriors, has not bowled competitively since early September. His place in the T20 squad for later this month has also been vacated.

The injury list lengthened when left-arm seamer Jediah Blades, 23, was diagnosed with a stress fracture of the lower back during training. Blades will fly home immediately, ruling him out of both the Bangladesh trip and the subsequent tour of New Zealand.

Selectors have drafted Akeal Hosein, the left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder, and uncapped quick Ramon Simmonds into the ODI squad for the final two matches on 21 and 23 October. Both players were already named for the T20 leg and will now link up earlier than planned.

Bangladesh lead the series 1-0 after a 74-run victory on a sluggish, two-paced surface in Mirpur. With Joseph and Blades unavailable, West Indies’ attack looks thin on high-pace options, placing extra responsibility on experienced campaigners such as Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder to find cutting edge on typically slow pitches.
