South Africa Women to visit Zimbabwe for first-ever five-match T20I series

Zimbabwe will welcome South Africa Women in September for a five-game Twenty20 International (T20I) programme at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo. It is South Africa’s maiden tour of the country and, rather surprisingly, the two sides have never met in this format before.

The fixtures are pencilled in for 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 September, each starting at 1.30 pm local time. For the record-keepers: the only previous meetings came back in 2017, at an ODI quadrangular event in Potchefstroom.

“South Africa are one of the strongest teams in world cricket and this tour presents our players with a valuable opportunity to test themselves against elite opposition in home conditions,” ZC managing director Givemore Makoni said. “This series reflects Zimbabwe Cricket’s continued commitment to investing in the women’s game and creating more opportunities for our players to compete at the highest level.”

The hosts have had a patchy run of late. Their last home assignment was against the UAE in September-October 2025, followed by a tough 2026 T20 World Cup Global Qualifier where four straight defeats rather stung. Since then the squad has clocked plenty of air miles, touring New Zealand and, more recently, Pakistan.

South Africa, ranked firmly inside the global top five, are using the trip as part of their preparations for next year’s Champions Trophy-style tournament – though that’s a conversation for another day.

Once the Bulawayo series wraps up, Zimbabwe head straight into a landmark tour of India for three T20Is and three ODIs, their first venture to the sub-continent powerhouse. A busy calendar, then, but a welcome one for a side searching for consistency as much as results.
