Sri Lanka Under-19 Pair Granted Bail after Alleged Bathroom Filming

Two Sri Lanka Under-19 cricketers have been arrested in Colombo on suspicion of secretly recording hotel guests while they bathed. The incident is said to have occurred at a Narahenpita hotel where the squad was staying.

Police took the players into custody earlier this week after several female guests reported spotting mobile phones trained on their bathrooms. Each cricketer was later released on personal bail of LKR 500,000 (roughly US$1,560).

“Our investigation now centres on whether any footage has been shared online,” a Narahenpita police spokesperson confirmed. Officers are examining the players’ devices and have not ruled out further charges.

The duo appeared before the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court for an initial hearing and are due back on 25 May. Until then, they remain under investigation but are free to train.

Sri Lanka Cricket has not announced disciplinary measures. The board itself is in transition following the removal of its previous office-bearers and the installation of a Transformation Committee this week. Officials say any internal action will wait until more details emerge.

Team management declined public comment, citing the ongoing legal process, but privately acknowledged the episode has unsettled preparations for upcoming youth fixtures.
