Suryakumar and Boult Advance to Third in IPL Rankings

Mumbai Indians (MI) have secured their spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs, defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) on Wednesday. This victory has also led to notable shifts in the Orange and Purple Cap standings.

Orange Cap Progress

Suryakumar Yadav was in remarkable form, hitting a resounding 73 not out from 43 deliveries on a challenging surface, guiding MI to a crucial total. With this performance, Suryakumar has climbed to third in the rankings, now boasting 583 runs from 13 matches. “I just focused on playing my natural game, letting the ball do the talking,” he commented post-match.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul, also playing on Wednesday, could only add 11 runs but moved up to the sixth spot, accumulating a total of 504 runs from 12 games. The leaderboard still sees B Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans (GT) and his teammate Shubman Gill leading, with 617 and 601 runs respectively.

Purple Cap Race

In the bowling department, MI’s Trent Boult moved ahead of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Josh Hazlewood by taking 1 for 29 against DC. This places Boult third in the Purple Cap standings. Prasidh Krishna of GT maintains the top position with 21 wickets, closely followed by Chennai Super Kings’ Noor Ahmad, who also has 21 but lags behind on economy.

Reflecting on DC’s performance, former cricketer Tom Moody observed, “DC seemed to lose their composure as the pressure mounted.” Varun Aaron agreed, noting the need for consistency throughout the tournament.

ESPNcricinfo’s detailed statistics continue to spotlight the season’s standout performers across various categories, while MI celebrate their progress with sights firmly set on the final prize.
