Tiwary and Nadeem Secure Key Roles in Jharkhand Cricket

In recent elections, former Indian cricketers Saurabh Tiwary and Shahbaz Nadeem have been appointed as secretary and joint secretary of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA), marking a new chapter in their continuing association with the sport.

Tiwary and Nadeem, both 35, had called it a day on their international cricket careers by 2024. Tiwary, a left-handed batsman, was part of the Indian squad for three One Day Internationals (ODIs) against Australia in 2010. On the other hand, Nadeem debuted in Test cricket in 2019 against South Africa as a left-arm spinner.

Previously, Tiwary hung up his boots in February last year. Over his extensive 17-year career for Jharkhand, he not only played but also led the team 88 times across various formats. His career also included stints with four IPL teams. Nadeem, meanwhile, retired in March 2024, after starting his first-class career at the tender age of 15 in the 2004-05 season.

The JSCA elections saw Tiwary decisively defeat opponent SB Singh with a vote tally of 438 to 194. Meanwhile, Nadeem secured a similarly emphatic victory for the joint secretary position, winning 409 to 199 against Raj Kumar Sharma.

In reflecting on their transition from the pitch to administrative roles, Tiwary remarked, “The cricket field taught me leadership; now, it’s time to apply those lessons off the field.” Both former players aim to employ their veteran insights towards Jharkhand cricket’s development, showing a commitment to nurturing future talents.

This move allows the duo to remain in the cricketing arena, contributing off-field after years of dedication on it. Their unique experiences can indeed provide substantial value to the administrative side of the sport.
