Veteran Players See Great Promise in Rising Talent Harsh Dubey

Harsh Dubey, a promising left-arm spinner from Vidarbha, has certainly caught the attention of the cricketing elite. Having cemented his reputation by taking the most wickets in a single Ranji Trophy season, Dubey has now drawn praise from the highly respected Anil Kumble and SRH’s own coach, Daniel Vettori, during his stint as a replacement player for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025.

In his first two matches post-resumption of the IPL, Dubey claimed figures of 1 for 44 and 1 for 20. His most notable performance came in the last game of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders where he picked up 3 for 34 from four overs. Dubey is independently judged by Daniel Vettori as clever and adaptable. “We’re very pleased with what he has done since he has come into the team,” Vettori shared in a post-match press conference. “He understands conditions well and can mix it up… And he’s been able to bring us that bit of control we were after.”

Vettori highlighted the importance of Dubey’s upcoming matches for India A and his domestic team, Vidarbha, which would allow him to hone both his bowling and batting skills. His calendar includes opportunities to play against England A and even a potential India Test team appearance. This recognition indicates that great things might be in store for Dubey.

Anil Kumble, India’s most successful Test bowler, also noted Dubey’s flair on ESPNcricinfo’s Time Out. “He’s giving it a tweak… with a bit of drift, making it harder for batsmen,” Kumble said, pointing out Dubey’s ability to introduce pace and maintain consistency, a critical aspect in securing wickets.

Kumble elaborated on Dubey’s technical prowess, “The trajectory needs to be flatter. He beat Russell with pace, not just turn. That’s what you want from a spinner.” Dubey’s dismissal of Andre Russell, using sharp turn and pace, exemplified this skill set.

As Dubey’s promising journey unfolds, the blend of guidance from cricketing legends and his evident skill could indeed forge a long and illustrious path for him in international cricket. The future certainly seems bright for this young spinner.
