The Sinhalese Sports Club, affectionately known as the SSC, stands as one of the most iconic cricket grounds in Sri Lanka. Nestled in the heart of Colombo, this venerable establishment first opened its doors in 1899, embedded deep within the island's cricketing lore.

Over the decades, the SSC has become synonymous with the quintessential Sri Lankan cricket experience. Notably, it was in 1982 that the ground hosted its first Test match, marking Sri Lanka's entry into the realm of international Test cricket. With a current seating capacity of approximately 10,000, the ground has undergone several renovations and upgrades over the years to cater to the evolving demands of both players and spectators. Although not the largest venue, its intimate setting is cherished by fans who frequent it for the cricket, as well as the atmosphere.

The ground serves as the home base for the Sinhalese Sports Club's cricket team, a dominant name in Sri Lanka’s domestic circuit. Besides hosting domestic competitions, the SSC regularly invites international teams to its hallowed turf. Amongst its storied history, the ground has garnered recognition for hosting several significant matches, including World Cup fixtures. One can’t forget the extraordinary innings by Sanath Jayasuriya, who scored a majestic 340 against India in 1997, making the SSC famous for more than just its lush surroundings.

The pitch at SSC is known for being quite sporting, often providing assistance to both batsmen and bowlers as a match progresses. It tends to favour batsmen initially with its flat surface but gradually offers purchase to spinners, staying true to the subcontinental tradition of turning tracks.
