In the midst of ongoing uncertainty concerning the resumption of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), the Gujarat Titans (GT) remain steadfast in their preparations. Following the IPL’s suspension on 9th May due to increasing tensions between India and Pakistan, GT have continued their training routine, demonstrating focus and determination.
Unlike other teams that saw significant departures among their overseas staff and players, GT retained the majority of their squad in Ahmedabad. Only Jos Buttler and Gerald Coetzee returned home to England and South Africa respectively. The team has stayed committed to training at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the franchise’s home ground.
On Saturday evening, a ceasefire was declared, and Devajit Saikia, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), stated on Sunday that a new start date for the IPL will be announced after consultation with all relevant parties and authorities.
Presently, GT are leading the points table, sharing eight wins from 11 matches with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), but having a superior net run rate. Before the suspension, Gujarat were scheduled to play two home fixtures—against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK)—and an away game against Delhi Capitals (DC).
Among their standout performers, openers B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill are sitting second and third in the chase for the Orange Cap, having both accumulated over 500 runs, trailing only Mumbai Indians’ Suryakumar Yadav. Prasidh Krishna has also made a significant impact, leading the Purple Cap race with 20 wickets.
As the IPL organisers navigate the complexities of resumption, GT’s readiness offers an intriguing narrative. Their dedication amid a clouded tournament calendar suggests a resolve that might well benefit them when play resumes.
