Dhaka Capitals assistant coach Mahbub Ali Zaki was taken to hospital on Saturday after collapsing during the team’s warm-up at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, shortly before their Bangladesh Premier League meeting with Rajshahi Royals.
Eyewitnesses said Zaki fell to the ground while players were going through fielding drills. The Capitals’ medical staff and ground paramedics administered CPR before an ambulance arrived. He was then moved to a nearby hospital for further treatment. No official word on his condition had been released at the time of writing.
“The medical team reacted immediately and followed their emergency plan,” a BPL official confirmed. Match officials briefly discussed delaying the start but opted to proceed on schedule once the ground was cleared.
Players from both sides looked visibly shaken yet continued their preparations once the ambulance had left. Rajshahi captain Liton Das offered quiet words of support, while Capitals skipper Mosaddek Hossain asked for privacy until more information is available.
Zaki, a respected figure on the domestic circuit, only joined Dhaka’s back-room staff this season. The franchise said it would provide an update “as soon as there is something concrete to share”.
Further details are expected later in the day.
