Delhi, 21 April 2026 – Axar Patel kept his perfect record at the toss intact, choosing to field against Sunrisers Hyderabad on a muggy afternoon that threatened rain. The Delhi Capitals skipper reckoned there might be a bit in the surface early on – and, with clouds hovering, the call felt sensible enough.
Sunrisers captain Ishan Kishan admitted afterwards the decision “wasn’t as straightforward today”. He hinted he might have bowled too, especially with that overhead cover, but the coin landed Delhi’s way and that was that.
Delhi’s XI shows they have finally tried to pad out a somewhat brittle middle order. Nitish Rana replaces seamer Auqib Nabi, giving them an extra left-hand option who can also bowl a few off-breaks. With David Miller and Tristan Stubbs already shoe-horned in, Rana’s inclusion means the fifth-bowler quota could become a patch-up job if things go badly. Ashutosh Sharma or Karun Nair look the obvious Impact choices should an extra hitter be needed later on, while Nabi stays in the dug-out as seam cover.
Sunrisers have sprung a quieter tweak, drafting in left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey for his first outing this season. That leaves one of Praful Hinge or Dilshan Madushanka to appear as Impact Player. Liam Livingstone and Harshal Patel also sit on the bench – decent insurance if the pitch misbehaves.
Abhinav Mukund, chatting on the host broadcaster, summed up Delhi’s approach: “DC need stability in their batting order.” Hard to argue; they have been 20 for three far too often.

Key points to watch
• How early movement – if any – treats Ngidi and Natarajan.
• Whether Dubey’s left-arm spin troubles Delhi’s cluster of right-handers.
• Impact substitutes: could Livingstone’s power hitting become decisive if SRH chase?
No fireworks in the build-up, just two sides shuffling pieces in search of rhythm. First ball shortly.
