Durham

Durham County Cricket Club, based in the northeast of England, is a fascinating and relatively recent addition to the county cricket scene, having been established in 1992. Prior to gaining first-class status, Durham had a long history in the Minor Counties Championship, but it was their ambition and growth that propelled them to the first-class ranks as the 18th county team.

From the moment they stepped into the professional arena, Durham showed a dogged determination, which soon translated into success. The club celebrated its first major triumph in 2007 by clinching the Friends Provident Trophy. Not long after, Durham emerged as dominant forces in the County Championship, clinching titles in 2008, 2009, and 2013. Their 2008 triumph was particularly remarkable as it marked their maiden Championship victory, a fitting reward for a side featuring quality players and a testimony to their rapid rise.

The team has been blessed with notable talents who've had a significant impact on both domestic and international stages. South African fast bowler Dale Benkenstein and local hero Paul Collingwood have contributed immensely to Durham's success. Collingwood, with his all-round abilities and leadership, became synonomous with the club's ethos of grit and endurance. Recent players like Ben Stokes and Mark Wood have continued this tradition, achieving global recognition while maintaining strong ties to their home county.
